Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Detroit Mercy Edged By Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (3/21/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team overcame a couple of four-goal deficits, but could not get a lead as the Titans dropped a tough 9-8 battle at Wagner on Saturday.

Redshirt junior Cooper St. Clair made 13 saves and had three ground balls, while sophomore Canton Lanham was 17-of-20 and picked up seven ground balls.

Freshman PJ O'Hanlon led the offense with a pair of goals. Redshirt sophomore Marcus Thundercloud had three assists, and freshman Dylan Belliveau had a marker and a helper.

The game was tied at 6-6 heading into the fourth when Wagner (3-5, 1-1 NEC) regained the advantage at the 12:59 mark. The lead was short-lived as graduate senior Harold Skinner took a pass from Belliveau, and just before the shot clock hit zero, he unleashed a shot past the keeper to tie it up.

Wagner then scored two in a row for a 9-7 lead, but another faceoff win from Lanham saw the Titans pepper the net with shots before sophomore Andrew Parker tallied a marker with 2:49 left.

Detroit Mercy (1-7, 0-2 NEC) won the next faceoff and got a shot off, but couldn't get the ball back, as a penalty helped Wagner run out the clock.

Sophomore Ian Greenwell had two caused turnovers and four ground balls. Senior Kyle Grant and freshman Jacob Czarnota each had a takeaway and three GB's, and junior Gavin Moore and freshman Tyler Francis-Renner had a caused turnover and ground ball.

Detroit Mercy saw Wagner score four times in the first before Thundercloud found freshman Whales Racette, and he scored his first collegiate goal with 9:12 to go in the second. Lanham won the next faceoff, and that is when Thundercloud fed Belliveau, who found the back of the net to cut the margin in half.

The Seahawks finished the second with two more strikes and took a 6-2 lead into the break, but UDM found some rhythm in the third, going on a 4-0 run to knot the game at 6-6.

The offensive charge started as O'Hanlon picked up a ground ball off a shot that hit the post and put it back in just a few minutes into the period. Sophomore Zach Gleason powered one in to trim it to 6-4 with 5:15 remaining before UDM took advantage of a penalty and O'Hanlon ripped his second of the contest for a 6-5 game with 3:33 left in the third.

The Titans would tie the game a minute later as junior Julian Greendeer grabbed a ground ball in the air off a save and fired one in to erase the four-goal deficit heading into the fourth.

Detroit Mercy outshot Wagner, 38-30, and had a 33-23 advantage in ground balls. UDM was also a perfect 16-of-16 on clears.

The Titans will return home to face LIU next Saturday.
