Young Announced as Women's Hoops Assistant Coach

University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball head coach Autumn Rademacher has introduced a new member of the Titans staff in assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Skyler Young.

"I feel very fortunate to have attracted Skyler Young to the University of Detroit Mercy as my recruiting coordinator," said Rademacher. "Being from Michigan and having coached at Western, he has excellent recruiting ties in the Detroit area. Skyler brings energy, a vast knowledge of the game, and is a well known, proven recruiter in the Midwest. I am extremely excited to welcome him to the Detroit women's basketball program."

Mostly recently, Young served as an assistant coach for Western Michigan University for three seasons (2005-08). While with the Broncos, Young was responsible for on-court coaching and skill development, with emphasis on the perimeter positions. His on-court coaching at WMU assisted in the development of NCAA All-Americans, an NCAA Division I national scoring leader and WNBA caliber talent. Young also had extensive responsibilities with recruiting potential student athletes, as well as scouting opponents. While at WMU, the Broncos won the Mid-American Conference Championship in 2003, which gave the Broncos an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and the following season the Broncos advanced to the WNIT Quarterfinals.

In the spring of 2005, Young was hired by the Seattle Storm of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in Seattle, WA, as the equipment manager. While with the Storm, Young was responsible for the ordering, delegation and care of team apparel, as well as equipment. In his one season in Seattle, Young provided on-court assistance for individual skill development, which included WNBA All-Stars Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird.

Prior to becoming a full-time staff member at WMU, Young served as an undergraduate manager from 2000-05. He assisted with the day to day operation duties, film exchange and team travel.

Young graduated from WMU in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
