Women's Soccer Edged by UC Irvine, 1-0

Box Score

Despite another solid defensive effort, the Detroit Titan women's soccer team saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end as the Titans dropped their first road loss of the season with a 1-0 setback to UC Irvine Friday night at Anteater Stadium.

The Titans (2-2-1) were held to only four shots for the game including one on goal by junior forward Emily Kiely (Tecumseh ON/St. Anne's Secondary) while the Anteaters (2-4) recorded 17 shots.

Freshman goalkeeper and reigning Horizon League Player of the Week, Joanna Hinde (Shelby Township, MI/Eisenhower), recorded seven saves and entered the contest riding a three-match consecutive shutout streak consisting of 353:48 minutes of scoreless goalkeeping. However, the streak ended at the 31:03 mark of the first half as UC Irvine's Alyssa Humphrey scored the game's only goal on a feed from Amanda Phillips.

UDM had a chance to get the equalizer on a corner kick with 30 seconds left in the match but the crossing feed was cleared by UC Irvine to preserve the 1-0 victory.

The Titans return to the Midwest for a non-conference match against in-state rival Michigan State on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 4:00 p.m.
