DETROIT (8-28-26) – After locking down the first road win of the season at former Horizon League foe Valparaiso, the Detroit Mercy women's soccer team looks to make it two in a row with a match against cross-town rival Wayne State on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.

Aug. 23, 2026 – Detroit Mercy 3 at Valparaiso 2:
Sophomore
Emma Henry posted her second goal of the season and assisted on junior
Sam Sickinger's game-winning tally while graduate student
Avery Mondoux scored her first career goal in a Detroit Mercy uniform as the Titans outlasted Valparaiso 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Brown Field/Warren G. Hoger Track.
Sophomore
Izzy Rener picked up her first win in goal in a Detroit Mercy (2-2) uniform, making a save. Mondoux got UDM on the board first in the 24th minute with a long-range strike from 15 yards out into the upper 90 for a 1-0 lead.
After a disallowed goal, the Titans wouldn't be denied as Henry converted a penalty kick, giving UDM a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute.
Valpo got on the board in the 43rd minute to trail 2-1 at the half. In the 68th minute, Henry broke down the right side and slotted a pass over to Sickinger, who hit a shot into the upper 90, moving the Titans ahead 3-1.
Valpo would not go away, pulling within a goal just two minutes later at 3-2.
UDM's defense stood tall over the final 20 minutes to secure their first road win of the season.
Scouting the Warriors:
• This is the inaugural season for women's soccer at Wayne State.
• The Warriors won their first match in program history at Northwood (2-0) on Thursday night.
• WSU is an NCAA Division II institution and member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Eva Hill was a brick wall in goal, posting her first career shutout win, making seven saves while facing 20 shots (10 in each half), helping UDM to a 1-0 home-opening win over Eastern Michigan (8/16).
• Hill was solid in goal, making five saves while facing 23 total shots and was seconds away from her second consecutive shutout before Toledo scored on a free kick with three seconds left in the game (8/20).
• Over the first two games, Hill has faced 43 shots while making 12 saves.
Follow the Leader:
• Head Coach
Steve Shelton is in his eighth season and looks to get the program back on track after a disappointing 2025 campaign.
• During the 2024 season, Shelton led the Titans to a 10-8-2 overall record, winning 10 games for the first time since the 2016 season, while going 7-1-2 in #HLWSOC play, which ranks as the most league wins in program history. The Titans finished third in the league standings after being picked to finish eighth in the preseason.
• As the No. 3 seed in the #HLWSOC Tournament, Shelton led Detroit Mercy to a quarterfinal victory over No.6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne for the program's first tournament win since 2018, before eventually falling in the semifinals to No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky.
• For his efforts, he earned #HLWSOC Coach of the Year honors, becoming the first UDM head coach to garner this award since the 2012 season. Shelton also led the Titans to an undefeated 4-0-2 mark on the road, and a second straight Metro Series victory over arch-rival Oakland.

Emma Henry will look to add to the offense after a solid freshman campaign where she started in all 18 games and ranked fourth on the team in goals (2) and tied for fourth in points (4).

• Hill recorded her first career shutout, with one save, in a 0-0 draw against Green Bay (10/12).
• Matched a career-best nine saves in goal against #HLWSOC leader Milwaukee (10/9).
• Recorded a career-high nine saves in the 2-0 setback at Kentucky (8/28).

Big Boots to Fill:
• The Titans will look to fill the huge offensive void left by
Abbey Lodato, who led the team in points (22 – T-2nd HL), goals (8 – T-2nd HL), assists (6 – T-3rd HL), and game-winning goals (2 – T-3rd HL) finishing her career as a Three-time #HLWSOC All-League First Team selection (2023, 2024, 2025), Horizon League Freshman of the Year and All-Freshman Team selection (2022).
• For her career, Lodato started in 70 of 71 games played, recording 24 goals (6 game-winners), 14 assists for 62 points, going a perfect 8-for-8 in penalty kicks.

2026 Under Armour #HLWSOC Preseason Poll:
• Detroit Mercy was picked to finish 11th in the 2026 Under Armour #HLWSOC Preseason Poll with 26 points.
• For the first time since the 2017 season, UDM was picked to finish third in the 2025 Under Armour #HLWSOC Preseason Poll, receiving 98 points and one first-place vote after finishing third in 2024 at 7-1-2 in conference play. However, the team finished the 2025 season in last place with an 0-7-3 mark.
Return of the MAC:
• Detroit Mercy will compete against four schools from the Mid-American Conference (MAC): Eastern Michigan, Toledo (8/20), Western Michigan (9/6), and Bowling Green (9/10).
• Additionally, the Titans played an exhibition against Central Michigan (8/8).

Hill faced another 10 shots in the second half, making three more saves as she and the back line stood tall the rest of the way, holding off EMU and snapping a two-game skid against the Eagles.

Avery Mondoux each recorded a shot as Detroit Mercy dropped the 2026 season opener at Kentucky, 6-0.
After a 35-minute rain delay, Kentucky (1-0) wasted little time scoring just 1:10 into the game for a quick 1-0 lead. The Wildcats then added back-to-back penalty-kick goals in the 12th and 17th minutes, followed by another tally in the 20th minute, for a commanding 4-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
