In rain soaked conditions, Detroit's men's soccer team (0-4) came up short in the final game of the University at Buffalo Fall Classic as the Bulls (4-0) claimed a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium in Buffalo, NY.

In the ninth minute, UDM sophomore Jacob Munchiando (Troy, MI/Troy Athens) took a free kick which landed in some traffic at the front of the net. After a few Buffalo defenders tried to get the ball out of the way, Detroit junior Nick Dreshaj (Clinton Township, MI) made contact and watched the ball trickle pass the goal line to put the score at 1-0 in favor of Detroit.

In the 16th minute, Titan freshman Sam Seppo (Port Huron, MI/Port Huron) had a breakaway and was able to fire a shot off, but it was stopped by UB's junior goalkeeper Bob Shuttleworth.

With just 38 seconds remaining in the first half, UB senior Dan Gwyther took a free kick from about 40 yards out. Teammate junior Steffen Thoresen was at the 15 yard line and was successful with his header attempt as the ball made its way into the center of the net to have the scoreboard read 1-1.

At 58:45 there was a collision in front of Detroit's net between UDM junior netminder Bryan Kloss (Fraser, MI/Bishop Foley) and a Bulls defender, which resulted in Kloss having to leave the game. UDM junior Luke Paneccasio (Sydney, Australia) then came in the game to replace Kloss for the final 31:15 minutes of the contest.

In the 79th minute, UB senior Lee Catchpole took a corner kick from the left side and Gwyther headed it into the center of the net to give the Bulls a 2-1 advantage. About four minutes later, UDM sophomore Ken Simon (Brighton, MI/Brighton) took a corner kick to the right of the net. Sophomore Mateusz Szwed (Southgate, MI/Southgate Anderson) received the ball and attempted a header, but Shuttleworth scooped it up for one of his three saves of the afternoon.

The final goal for UB was an own goal by Detroit at the 85:40 mark.

The Titans will return to action when they host Michigan on Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. for Detroit's first home game of the 2008 campaign.
