Hanna Wins Again As Titans Return From EMU Open

EMU Open Results

Sophomore Lesley Hanna won his second event of the year to lead the UDM men's track and field team in its first event since resuming the indoor season as the Titans competed in the EMU Open on Saturday.

Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley) was victorious in the 200-meters with a career best time of 22:40, an event that he won at the Macomb Open back in December in 22.55. He also finished 13th in the 60m in 7.20.

“Lesley picked up right where he left off in December,” said head coach Guy Murray. “It was a nice win for him to open the new year.”

Freshman Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.46m/21'2.5", while fellow rookie Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI/Yale) claimed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles clocked at 8.77. Senior Eric Christy (St. Clair, MI/St. Clair) picked up a seventh-place finish in the 400m with a time of 50.82.

The Titan distance medley relay, composed of four sophomores in Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville), Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI/Ferndale), Patrick Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) and Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin), took seventh in 10:45.62, with Liederbach leading the way with a 3:06 1200m leg.

“It was good to get back on the track and see where we stand following the holiday break,” said Murray. “We competed in some off events and matched up the distance medley relays as a low-key start to the season.”

The Titans return to action on Friday, Jan. 16, when Detroit faces Horizon League foe Valparaiso in a dual in Allendale, MI.
