NEW ORLEANS, La. (7/20/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's track and field teams did the work in the classroom as both were named an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The men posted a 3.42 GPA, the second-best in the Horizon League and tied for 46th in the nation. UDM has now been honored 23 times in the 24 years of the award, missing only 2003. 

The men also saw freshman Joey DeCasas earn All-Academic Athlete by the organization. The honor is for student-athletes with a 3.25 GPA and ranked in the top 96 in the nation in an event. DeCasas was tied for 51st in the long jump during the indoor campaign.

The women recorded a 3.47GPA, extending its streak of earning the team academic award to 24 straight years.

The criteria for a team to be named an NCAA Division I All-Academic Team include:
  • The cumulative GPA (not 2025-26 academic year, not semester) for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, certifiable by either NCAA Faculty Rep or NCAA Compliance Coordinator or Registrar's Office. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0].
