Team Scores

The UDM men's track and field team came away with a 73-52 win over the Oakland Grizzlies at a Quad Meet held on the campus of Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti. Detroit fell, 93-47, to host EMU and 74-57, to Central Michigan in the other two match-ups.

Once again, the red, white and blue were led by sophomore Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley), who took first in the 400m in a photo finish time of 49.03, edging Nathan Blackwell of EMU. He then led the 4x400m to a victory teaming with seniors Eric Christy (St. Clair, MI/St. Clair), John LaRocca (Eastpointe, MI/De LaSalle Collegiate) and freshman Joe LaRocca (Eastpointe, MI/De LaSalle Collegiate) for to post a time of 3:20.25. Hanna capped off the day competing in the high jump, where he placed second with a leap of 1.99m/6'6.25”, a mark that moved him to third on the all-time school list.

“Lesley had another tremendous meet in what is a big breakout season for him,” said head coach Guy Murray. “The high jump was a complete surprise. He was entered to make a height or two and get some points and he actually didn't miss, he just had to go run the 400m. His 400m and 4x400m wins were both photo finishes.”

Sophomore Pat Liederach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) moved himself into the Titan top 10 list in the mile, finishing the event in fourth place with a career best time of 4:15.79.

“Pat's had a good run and led a lot of PR's from the distance guys.” added Murray.

Senior Adam Mayhew (Richland, MI/Gull Lake) earned a personal record in the weight taking third with a throw of 15.81m/ 51'10.5”, while freshman Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) was fourth in the 60m in 7.15, a run that now stands sixth in Titan annals.

Freshman Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI/Yale) had a couple of third place finishes. He started the day with a PR in the long jump at 6.12m/20'1” and followed that with his event debut in the triple jump, where he leaped 12.02m/39'5.25”.

Sophomore Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) was 11th in the mile in 4:29.37, while junior Kevin Wozniak (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) took 13th in the event with a run of 4:35.37. The men also had a great day in the 3000m as sophomore Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI/Shrine) and Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin), along with freshman Derek Hoerman (Canton, MI/Canton) all hit personal highs in the event. Harris placed 12th in 8:54.16, just cracking the school's top 10 tally, while Smalley earned 17th in 9:07.49 and Hoerman 21st in 9:23.98.

“We did a very good job of competing today as we continue to improve and develop as a team, overall,” said Murray.

The Titans will have the next two weeks off before competing in the Akron Open on Saturday, Feb. 14.
