Titans sophomore center Eli Holman was named Horizon League Men's basketball Player of the Week on Monday following an MVP performance in leading Detroit to a 3-0 record over the weekend at the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer in Albany, NY.
Holman (Richmond, CA/Richmond) averaged 16.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, while shooting .656 from the field, in Detroit's victories over Robert Morris, host Albany and Alcorn State in the three-day tournament. Included in his work load was a pair of double doubles – a career-high 20 points and 14 rebounds vs. Albany, as well as 16 points plus 15 boards against Alcorn State. The 15 rebounds in the latter game marked another personal best for Holman.
A transfer from Indiana in his first active season at UDM, Holman was joined on the All-Tournament team by junior teammate Xavier Keeling (Huntsville, AL/J.O. Johnson) after the Titans pushed their winning streak to four on Sunday with a 79-59 victory over Alcorn State.
Armed with their longest stretch of consecutive wins since 2004-05, the 4-1 Titans are idle until Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Chicago and take on DePaul. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. (EST).
