UDM Men's Basketball Practice Report – Dec. 17

Ray McCallum ShootAround Show On Titan YouTube Channel

The Titans will look to rebound from a pair of losses when Bowling Green comes to town on Saturday. The game is part of a Titan doubleheader with the women hosting Michigan at 1 p.m., and the men's game to follow at 3:30 p.m. After taking a few days off for finals, Detroit was back at it preparing for the Falcons.

After practice, sophomore Eli Holman and freshman John Hoskins sat down to talk about the game and the season. Head coach Ray McCallum also is featured in his daily ShootAround Show on the Titan YouTube channel.

Sophomore center Eli Holman

How he feels after missing three games and coming back against Michigan:

I am a little sore, but that is expected. It was tough missing those games because I really wanted to be out there with my teammates. The guys got me through it and really played well winning two games, but it got even harder not to be out there after the loss to Tennessee State.

What did he expect in his first game back at Michigan:

I was prepared to play mentally, that was the big thing. I just wanted to let the game come to me and not really force anything. I ended up with 17 points, but only four rebounds so I need to pick that up.

On the team's morale after two losses:

We need to bounce back from that. All good teams can do that. We have to defend our home court. Anytime you lose at home, I consider that a bad loss and we had one of those against Tennessee State and then we played well at Michigan in the first half, but we just could not keep it going. It's important for everyone to work hard and get ready to play a good Bowling Green team.

Freshman forward John Hoskins

On his first year as a Titan:

I am really enjoying my first year at Detroit and in college. I have great teammates who are always pushing me harder and harder to improve my game, but every day is so much fun with these guys. We practice hard as a team everyday and we need to continue to do that.

On playing teams like California and Michigan as a freshman:

We have played a lot of good teams. My first game at California was a great experience and to be able to play against Michigan and their fans was fun. We played hard in both games and that is a great sign for things to come.

On Bowling Green:

They are a big team. We are going to have to box out and rebound and run the floor with their big guys. We are also going to have to finish on offense.
