Four Titans scored in double figures, including a career-high 17-point effort from sophomore Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing), to help lead University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team to a 67-44 victory over Colgate Wednesday evening at Calihan Hall.

Senior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian) was next in line with 15 points, which included a 5-of-9 showing from beyond the arc, while junior Tayler Langham (Plymouth, MI/Salem) added 14 points for the Titans. Sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) collected her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 10 rebounds, as well as 10 points, and tied Mulroy for a game-best three steals.

“I'm very happy to get this win,” said Detroit head coach Autumn Rademacher. “We started a little slow, a little lackadaisical, but that's something we expected right after the Christmas break. We talked pretty loudly, and they responded to what we had to say at halftime.”

The score was tied six times during the first half, but Mulroy pushed the Titans ahead of the Raiders, 21-20, at the 5:05 mark as she drained one from long range and Detroit would not relinquish its lead the remainder of the game as they ended a losing streak.

“We had to get some momentum going into what we like to call the zero-zero season, the conference season,” commented Rademacher. “Anything we might have gained from our wins, anything we might have learned since the beginning of the year will be in place starting on Sunday against Wright State.”

Langham made a fast break lay-up with just under three minutes left to stretch Detroit's lead to four (24-20), while freshman Demeisha Fambro (Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech) netted the last basket of the half to give the Titans a 27-24 advantage at the break.

With the scoreboard reading 34-32 just before the 16-minute media timeout, the Titans scored 10 unanswered points, which was capped off by a 3-pointer from Mulroy, with help from sophomore Lauren Allen (Rochester, MI/Rochester). With just over seven minutes left, Mulroy made one of her treys to give Detroit a 12-point advantage (54-42) and the Titans would keep its double digit lead the rest of the way.

Sophomore Tricia Oakes came off the bench to lead Colgate with 12 points, while sophomore Holly Havenstein grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

Detroit shot 44 percent on the night (24-of-55), while the Raiders had an 18-of-51 showing from the field (35 percent). Colgate had a slight 37-34 advantage on the boards, while the Titans dominated in the steals category, 12-5, as the Raiders collected 24 turnovers on the night.

The Titans (2-9) will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 3 when they open up Horizon League play at home against Wright State at 2 p.m.
