Post-game reactions from Head Coach Autumn Rademacher

Detroit sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) collected her third double-double of the season with a game-high 13 boards and a team second-best 19 points, but the Titans fell to visiting Eastern Michigan, 72-55, in women's basketball action at Calihan Hall Saturday afternoon.

In the opening half, Detroit pulled within one (8-7) after Shayok netted a jumper at 12:48 and then the Titans knotted the score at 11 about three minutes later after freshman Demeisha Fambro (Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech), who ended with a team-high 22 points, made a fast break lay-up. After Shayok scored again with 4:15 remaining off an assist from sophomore Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing), to put Detroit within six (25-19), the Eagles (6-2) responded with 12 unanswered points to head into the break with a 37-19 advantage.

Eastern maintained control the second half as they led by double digits the entire stanza, with its largest lead coming at 9:51 after sophomore Paige Redditt hit a lay-up off an assist from junior Cassie Schrock to put the score at 58-35. In the closing minutes, Fambro netted another fastbreak lay-up and senior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian), who ended with a career-high 12 rebounds, added two points for the Titans to pull Detroit within 15 (70-55).

UDM sophomore Jaimee Stoner (Valencia, CA/Hart) made her collegiate debut as she scored two points and added a steal in 13 minutes of play.

"Jaimee Stoner got in, played very hard and earned herself some minutes for the future," said head coach Autumn Rademacher.

EMU sophomore Tavelyn James made all six attempts at the line and shot 5-of-12 from beyond the arc to end with a game-high 29 points, while junior Kristin Thomas grabbed a team-best 10 boards.

Detroit shot 32 percent on the afternoon (22-of-68), while Eastern was 25-of-64 from the field (39 percent) and the Eagles edged Detroit in rebounds, 50-47.

The Titans (1-5) will return to action when they host Bowling Green on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
