Hooten's Dozen Leads Titans Against Bowling Green

Box Score (in pdf)

Post-game press conference with Autumn Rademacher and Kassandra Hooten

Detroit freshman Kassandra Hooten (Moorehead, MN/Moorhead) poured in a team-high and personal-best 12 points, while tying for a team-high seven rebounds, but the Titans ended up falling by a score of 64-43 to visiting Bowling Green in women's basketball action Wednesday night at Calihan Hall.

UDM senior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian) also scored in double figures with 10 points after shooting 4-of-5 from the field, while teammate sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) matched Hooten's effort in caroms (7).

"We played extremely hard, and defensively, guarding them man-to-man we were very energetic and spunky and it was energizing for everyone," said Detroit head coach Autumn Rademacher. "So I just think that our energy and effort level were there and that's all we want."

Sophomore Lauren Allen (Rochester, MI/Rochester), who ended with a game-high four steals, gave the Titans a 6-4 lead in the opening minutes of the contest as she hit a midrange jumper off a pass from Mulroy. The Falcons answered with a 3-pointer from junior Jen Uhl and then Bowling Green maintained its lead the rest of the game.

Detroit cut the Falcons' lead to two with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half after Hooten made both of her attempts at the line to put the score at 19-17. Bowling Green responded with a 12-2 scoring run, but Mulroy nailed a trey as time expired to pull the Titans within eight at the break (32-24).

The Titans cut the deficit to nine at 6:17 after Shayok converted a 3-point play, but that was the closest Detroit would get to Bowling Green as the Falcons responded with 15 unanswered points, which included a 9-of-9 showing at the charity stripe.

Bowling Green junior Lauren Prochaska netted a game-high 25 points, two shy of her personal-best, which included a flawless 7-of-7 showing at the line. Uhl pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while senior Tara Breske came off the bench to add 10 points for the Falcons.

UDM shot 29 percent on the night (15-of-51), while the Falcons had a 23-of-56 showing from the field. BGSU (6-2) had a 42-34 advantage in rebounds and Detroit tallied two blocks to the Falcons' one.

The Titans (1-6) will return to action when they travel to Kentucky to face Morehead State (6-3) on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. Last season, Detroit defeated the Eagles by a score of 60-54 on Dec. 17 at Calihan Hall.
