Box Score (in pdf)

In the second sporting event on the campus of Detroit on Saturday, UDM's women's basketball team dropped a 63-50 decision to Wright State in a Horizon League match-up at Calihan Hall. The Titans now own a 9-18 overall record (5-11 HL), while WSU improves to 12-15 on the year (8-8).

In the opening half, the score was tied four times and the lead changed on six occasions, with the Titans' first lead happening at 10:21 after senior Sandi Brown (Toledo, OH/Start) hit a midrange jumper to put the score at 8-7.

Junior guard Chanica Hall (Minneapolis, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) made a fastbreak layup with just over four minutes left to give Detroit a two-point advantage (14-12), while freshman Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) netted a layup at 2:33, to put the score at 18-17, for Detroit's last lead of the contest. Wright State collected the last two baskets in the closing minutes to go into the break with a 27-22 advantage over the Titans.

Allen, who ended with a team-high and personal-best 17 points, netted the first basket of the second half off an assist from Hall to put the score at 27-24. The Raiders responded with seven unanswered points, four of which came from sophomore Ta-myra Davis. Detroit pulled within seven, twice, with the last coming at 8:36 after Allen made one of her eight field goals of the afternoon (42-35), but that was the closest the Titans would get to the Raiders the rest of the contest.

Brown ended with a team second-best 10 points, while redshirt freshman Talicia Washington (Auburn Hills, MI/Avondale) tied for a game-best seven rebounds.

WSU had three players score in double figures with Davis leading the way with a game-high 19, while sophomore Shey Peddy and freshman Maria Bennett added 18 and 10, respectively.

Detroit had a 22-of-56 showing from the field (39 percent), while the Raiders shot 42 percent on the afternoon (25-of-59). WSU won the battle of the boards, 39-33, while steals were fairly even with the Raiders collecting 11 to Detroit's 10.

The Titans will finish out the regular season at home, with the next game on March 5 against UIC at 7 p.m.
