Box Score (in pdf)

The University of Detroit Mercy's hard fought battle against Green Bay came up short as the #8-seeded Titans fell to the top-seeded Phoenix by a score of 60-46 in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 Speedway Horizon League Championship at the Kress Center in Green Bay, WI. The Titans finish the 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 12-19, while the Phoenix head to the semifinals with a 27-3 mark on the season.

Three Titans scored in double figures with junior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian) leading with 13, while freshman Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) and redshirt freshman Talicia Washington (Auburn Hills, MI/Avondale) each netted 10 for Detroit. In her last game in a Titan uniform, senior Sandi Brown (Toledo, OH/Start) pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for her seventh double digit carom showing of the season.

After being down by a score of 21-3 with just over seven minutes left in the first half, Detroit went on a 10-2 scoring run with each of the four baskets scored by a different Titan. About three minutes later, Allen drained a 3-pointer off an assist from senior Zemora Davis (Detroit, MI/Community) to put the score at 29-20.

With 24 seconds remaining, Washington grabbed an offensive board off a Davis missed shot and netted a lay-up to put the score at 29-22, which stood as the score at the break.

The Titans cut the deficit to just five on five occasions in the second half, with the last coming after Mulroy dished a pass to Washington, who hit a layup to put the score at 45-40 at the 7:12 mark. Green Bay responded with nine unanswered points and the Phoenix had a 6-of-6 showing at the line in the closing minute to help secure its victory.

Senior Lavesa Glover netted a game-high 15 points for Green Bay, while senior Erin Templin collected a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Titans shot 37 percent on the night (19-of-52), while the Phoenix had a 23-of-57 showing from the field (40 percent). Green Bay edged Detroit on the boards, 37-35, while the Titans collected five blocks to UWGB's three.
