Titans Defensive Effort Falls Short At Denver

Box Score

The UDM men's lacrosse team battled not only the weather, but a high powered Denver offense as the Titans fell to the Pioneers, 10-1, on Friday afternoon.

The game, originally scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start, was moved to 3:30 due to a snowstorm hitting the state of Colorado, causing freezing rain at the start of the day to turn into a heavy snow downpour at game time.

When it did start, the Titans defense came to play holding DU to just one goal in the first period and nearly went into the half down by just two, but the Pioneers added a score with just three seconds on the clock to take a 3-0 halftime lead.

UDM trailed 4-0 in the third when junior Pat O'Shea (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) notched his 10th goal of the season taking a pass from sophomore Matt Gregson (Flint, MI/Powers Catholic) and putting it past the Pioneer goalie at the 13:02 mark.

Denver would go on to score six straight markers to seal the victory.

Junior Vince Diana (Massillon, OH Jackson) made 15 saves and collected a team-high 10 ground balls. For the game, the Titans picked up 35 ground balls, while also forcing 26 DU turnovers.

Detroit returns to action on Sunday when the red, white and blue close out its inaugural season on the road against the Air Force Academy. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. (EST)
