DETROIT (9/21/2026) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse head coach and former Titan All-MAAC midfielder Charlie Hayes '18 won his second professional title on Sunday as the Philadelphia Waterdogs cruised past the Denver Outlaws, 14-4, in the Premier Lacrosse League championship game.

This is Hayes' second PLL title, as he was part of the Waterdogs championship squad in 2022, but this time he saw action in the contest, posting a caused turnover and a ground ball.

Hayes is one of nine former Titans who have won championships across major sports in the United States. The list includes:

Some other Titans who came close to winning a world title include Bob Miller as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies Whiz Kids in 1950, who lost in the World Series to the New York Yankees, and Dorie Murrey, a member of the 1971 Baltimore Bullets that fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA championship.

As a student-athlete, Hayes has been a part of some of the best Titans teams, helping Detroit Mercy to its first two winning seasons with an 8-5 mark in 2015 and a school-record 9-7 in 2018, which ended with a trip to the MAAC finals. As a coach, he guided UDM to tie a school record with five straight wins in 2024 and a ride to the NEC finals.
