The rain stayed away for much of the afternoon setting the stage for the Titans first home event of the year as Detroit hosted its Track and Field Classic on Friday at Titan Field.

The evening's highlight was the appearance of 2008 Canadian Olympian Nate Brannen who won the Elite Mile in a time of 4:11.72, setting a new meet record in the process. Right behind Brannen were Titan sophomores Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) and Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON/Denis Morris Catholic). Liederbach also went under the facility record, which was held by Nick Allen of Wayne State with a 4:20.20 in 2002, with a time of 4:20.03, while Mahler was third in 4:25.04.

Sophomore Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI/Ferndale) was the only multiply victor in the meet as the Detroit native won the 100m in a facility record 10.79, and the 200m in 22.81.

Senior John LaRocca (Eastpointe, MI/ De LaSalle Collegiate) took home top honors in the 300m in 51.14, while sophomore Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) won the 3000m with a run of 9:19.10. Freshman Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI/Yale) placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 12.42m.

Senior Adam Mayhew (Richland, MI/Gull Lake) had a fine day in throws finishing second in the hammer (51.57m) and discus (43.94m) and was third in the shot put (15.40m).

Also victorious on the day was the 4x100m that posted a time of 43.62.

On the women's side, senior Tiffany James (Westland, MI/Wayne Memorial) won the 100m in a Titan Field record of 12.40.

Senior Terricita Thomas (Maple Heights, OH/Maple Heights) placed first in the 800m in 2:24.25, while classmate Beata Gorzynska (Ilawa, Poland/Mazurski of Olsztynie) took the steeplechase in 12:59.70. The women's 4x400 also came away with a win crossing the finishing line in 4:12.80.

The Titans return to action next Friday, April 10, as the red, white and blue travel to Lewisburg, PA, to compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic.
