Senior
Adam Mayhew netted two more scoring marks and Detroit pushed several athletes into the finals as UDM wrapped up day two of the Horizon League Championships, held at the Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, IL.
With less then half of the championships events in the books, the red, white and blue stand sixth with nine points on the weekend.
Mayhew (Richland, MI/Gull Lake) earned three more points for the Titans taking fifth in the discus (43.75m) and sixth in the javelin (42.79m).
The UDM sprinters were in full force netting four qualifiers in tomorrow's 100m final, three lanes in the 200m as well as a spot in the 400m. Sophomore
Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI/Ferndale) won his heat with the top overall time in the 100m with a run of 10.85. Joining him in the finals will be freshman
Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) who placed fourth with a 11.09, junior
Deonte Osayande (Detroit, MI/Wingate) (fifth in 11.23) and junior
Sam Jones (Detroit, MI/U-D Jesuit), who ran a 11.43 for the ninth and final spot.
In the 200m, sophomore
Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley) was third overall in 22.20, while Cleary (22.25) and Landrum (22.26) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, qualifying for Sunday's finals. Hanna also won his heat in the 400m with the second best preliminary time of 48.38.
Freshman
Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI/Yale) moved into two championship events in tomorrow's hurdle finals, taking sixth in the 110m preliminaries in 16.36 and eighth in the 400m with a time of 56.84.
The final day of the Horizon League Championships begins tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. (CST).
