BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Junior
Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) scored a team-high 16 points, but it was not enough as the Detroit Titans fell on the road to Bowling Green, 88-63, on Wednesday at Anderson Arena.
Jones was 5-of-9 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe on the night, while also dishing out five assists.
Sophomore
Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) added 13 points, while junior
Talicia Washington (Auburn Hills, MI/Avondale) had eight points and four rebounds off the bench.
Detroit (3-2) shot 44 percent in the game, including 51 percent in the second half, a half that saw them nearly double its first period production with 41 points.
Detroit trailed right from the start as Bowling Green (4-1) went on a 13-0 run to open the game. The Titans then found their offense playing even with the Falcons and trimming the deficit to 12, 30-18, with 6:50 left in the half. It looked as though the Titans would draw even closer but a turnover and two BGSU offensive rebounds started a 16-4 spurt for the home team as the Falcons took a 46-22 advantage into the intermission.
The second half saw Detroit's offense really get on a roll, as the Titans exploited the paint for most of its damage. In the period, Detroit outscored the Falcons, 28-10, but as often as UDM was hitting its shots, Bowling Green responded with points of its own, especially from the free throw line where the Falcons were 15-of-15 in the period and 27-of-28 overall.
Lauren Prochaska had a game-high 26 points for Bowling Green.
Detroit will have some time off before returning to action next Saturday, Dec. 4, when the Titans play in the Big Easy Classic, hosted by Tulane in New Orleans, La. UDM will face St. Joseph's on Saturday and the host Green Wave on Sunday.
