DETROIT-  Host Detroit used a solid bench effort and a pair of double-double performances to run past Niagara, 96-77 in the final game of the Legends Classic tournament held at Calihan Hall Sunday.  Nick Minnerath and Eli Holman were each named to the five-man All-Tournament Team with Holman grabbing Most Valuable Player accolades.

LaMarcus Lowe had his best game as a Titan, posting a line of 12 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in 21 minutes of action off the bench.  Holman also had a double-double, his third straight of the tournament and fifth of the season, with 11 points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes.

It was all Detroit almost from the tip.  After a Niagara dunk started things off, the Titans followed with nine straight points to take control of the tempo early.  Jason Calliste stole a pass and converted the layup to seal a frantic opening that saw the Titans blitz out to a 15-4 lead.

As was the case all weekend long, Holman was dominant in the paint once again, swatting away four Niagara shots, part of 13 Detroit blocks on the night.  It was the bench that provided a much-needed spark for the Titans, who were playing in their third game in as many nights.

All 10 dressed players saw action for Detroit, scoring a combined 31 points and grabbing 23 rebounds to help rack-up an impressive 55 boards as a team.   Lowe's night came in his longest stint of the season and he took advantage.  The 6-foot-11 junior Western Michigan transfer piled-up his six blocks and dozen points by denying shots in the paint on one end and cleaning-up missed shots on the offensive end.  Lowe came into the contest averaging just over 10 minutes per game, but provided a lift with his career-best efforts on Sunday.

Lowe took a load off for Holman, who needed just 19 minutes to pile-up his gaudy numbers again.  His MVP performance helped the Titans to three wins on the weekend.  He averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds over the course of the tournament and shot an amazing 20-of-23 (.870) from the floor for the weekend.

Five Titans scored in double figures with Ray McCallum leading the way with his 21-point night.  Calliste added 17, Lowe 12, Holman 11 and Minnerath 10.  Donavan Foster chipped-in nine points and Evan Bruinsma notched seven.

Detroit will host a pair of games this week, welcoming Akron Wednesday before opening conference play Saturday with a match-up against Wright State.
