ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Dominique Dixon (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) poured in a career-high 20 points, and the Detroit defense held Michigan to just 30 percent from the field as the Titans earned their first win over their in-state rivals since 1994, 67-48, on Saturday night at Crisler Arena.

Dixon also tallied a career-best going 7-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from behind the arc, while matching her career-high with five rebounds.

“We had a good week of practice and we came out hard and ready to play,” said Dixon. “We had some tough losses to Michigan State and down in New Orleans, but we learned from those games. It was a total team effort today and a great win for my teammates.”

Three other Titans scored in double digits as junior Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Junior Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) scored 11 and added four boards and three assists, while sophomore Cherridy Thornton (Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior) netted 11 points and pulled down a career-best six caroms.

Sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) posted a game and season-best 14 boards and just missed a double-double ending with eight points.

Detroit (5-5) held Michigan (6-5) to just 30 percent from the field, including 25 percent in the first half, as well as just 6-of-30 (20%) from three-point range. The Titans also dominated the boards on the night, 47-30.

Detroit led from the very start, but put the game away with a 14-2 run in the second half. Up by six, 45-39, with 8:05 left in the game, the Titans scored seven straight to go up by 12, 52-39. After two Michigan free throws, Allen connected on a jumper and Dixon added a three and a layup on back-to-back possessions to put the red, white and blue up by 18, 59-41 with three minutes to go. Detroit would increase its lead to as many as 21, 67-46, before the horn sounded for the 19-point victory.

The Titans came out ready to play scoring the game's first five points. Detroit maintained the lead and was leading 10-5, when the red, white and blue opened its first double-digit lead with six-straight markers. Allen started the run with a jumper and then after two offensive rebounds, Jones and Thornton connected on layups to give Detroit a 16-5 lead with 12:12 left in the first.

Detroit's biggest lead would come just a little more than a minute later as Dixon nailed a three to give the Titans a 19-7 advantage and, with UDM's strong defensive play and great work on the boards, the Titans took a 25-18 lead into the half.

Michigan got to within five with a basket to start the second period, but the Titans answered with a 3-pointer by Dixon. The Titans stayed in front by singles digits for the next five minutes until opening a 10-point lead, 40-30, at the 14:32 mark. The closet UDM ever let U-M get after that was six points, 45-39, until Detroit took complete control of the contest with the 14-2 spurt.

UDM shot 41 percent (23-of-56) and a season-best 88 percent from the free throw line connecting on 15 of its 17 attempts, including all eight in the final three minutes of action.

Detroit will finally return home – after seven straight on the road – as the Titans will spend the holidays in the Motor City as they get ready for Marygrove on Dec. 27. Game time is now scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

Game Notes:
Detroit was not whistled for a foul in the first half…Shayok had 10 rebounds in the first half…The last time Detroit beat Michigan, Coach Rademacher was a star freshman guard for the Titans and had a team-high 18 points in the contest…The win was the first for UDM in Rademacher's three-year tenure against the Big Ten as Detroit was 0-4 prior to today…The win was also the first for Detroit against a “BCS” school on the road since the Titans defeated Miami, 78-77, in 1995.
