Box Score (in pdf)

Sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) helped lead Detroit to a 63-56 victory over Loyola as she collected her eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds Thursday evening at the Gentile Center.

With the win, Detroit (12-11, 10-2 HL) maintains its hold onto first place in the Horizon League.

The Titans came out of the gate strong and made their presence known as they opened up on a 21-2 run and held Loyola to just one field goal for the first 10:06 of the contest. During those 10 minutes, eight of those points for Detroit were scored by Shayok, eight more by senior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian) and sophomore Lauren Allen (Rochester, MI/Rochester), who ended with a team second-best 15 points, chipped in five.

Allen collected one of her team-high seven assists when Shayok gave Detroit a 32-18 advantage with just over three minutes left in the first half and then, about a minute later, sophomore Sierra Spaude (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sturgeon Bay) increased the lead to 15 (35-20) after draining one from long distance. The Ramblers (12-11, 6-6 HL) responded with a 7-0 run, but Allen sank a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Titans a 38-27 lead at the break.

Loyola pulled within five (38-33) after Ellen Ayoub hit a 3-pointer in the opening minutes of the second stanza, but Detroit then scored seven unanswered points, which was capped off with a lay-up from Allen. The Titans maintained their lead the rest of the game, but the Ramblers cut UDM's edge to just four with 58 seconds remaining (60-56). However, Mulroy made both attempts at the charity stripe in a one-and-one situation, while Allen netted one of her tries at the line to help secure Detroit's 10th Horizon League victory.

Mulroy also scored in double figures as she added 13 points for the Titans and sophomore Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) collected a game-high four steals and a season-best seven rebounds.

Loyola senior Elyse VanBogaert netted a game-high 17 points and also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

Detroit shot 41 percent on the night, while Loyola had a 37 percent showing. The Ramblers made nine treys, compared to Detroit's five, but the Titans had a 10-of-14 showing at the free throw line, while Loyola only had six tries (5-of-6) at the charity stripe. UDM outrebounded the Ramblers, 41-34, and the Titans also edged out LUC in steals, 7-5.

The Titans will return to action when they face UIC on Saturday at 4 p.m.
