Demeisha Fambro (Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech) drained a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation against Cleveland State to send the game into overtime, but Detroit came up short by a score of 70-60 in a Horizon League match-up at the Wolstein Center Thursday evening.
UDM senior
Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian), who ended with a team-high 16 points, netted one of her five treys with 3:30 remaining in the second half to tie the game at 57 and sophomore
Lauren Allen (Rochester, MI/Rochester) followed with a 3-pointer of her own to give the Titans a three-point cushion. The Vikings responded with a 6-0 scoring run, which was halted after Fambro made one from long range with four seconds left in regulation to knot the game at 58.
However, when it came to the extra session, Detroit only managed to score two points, compared to CSU's 12.
Detroit was down by seven points with two minutes left in the first half, but the Titans scored the final three baskets of the stanza to tie the game at 26. During that span, Mulroy hit one from beyond the arc, while both sophomore
Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) and junior
Tayler Langham (Plymouth, MI/Salem) netted midrange jumpers.
Allen grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, dished out a game-best four assists and collected four steals, while Fambro came off the bench to add 12 points.
CSU senior Kailey Klein led all scorers with 32 points, 15 of which came at the free throw line, and also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
UDM shot 40 percent on the night (23-of-57), while CSU (14-12, 9-6 HL) had a 22-of-57 showing from the field. The Titans made nine 3-pointers, compared to the Vikings' four, but CSU scored 22 points at the foul line (22-of-27), while Detroit only had 10 tries (5-of-10) at the charity stripe.
The Titans (14-13, 12-4 HL) will return to action when they face Youngstown State in Ohio on Saturday at 4:35 p.m.
