DETROIT--  Butler handed Detroit an 87-64 defeat in front of 6,674 at Calihan Hall Friday night in Horizon League play.  The Bulldogs were impressive on both ends of the floor in securing the victory.

BU (13-5, 5-1) holds onto a share of first place in the league with the win (Valparaiso).  Detroit (10-8, 4-2) mustered just 20 first-half points and never recovered.

Detroit started the game on the right foot, leading 10-6 and getting the crowd into the game.  Butler forward Matt Howard did his best to hush the gathering, hitting three quick triples, part of five on the night to spark a 22-4 run to put the Bulldogs in the driver's seat.

Butler kept the pedal to the floor and went into halftime with a 42-20 advantage.  At the break, the Dogs had 11 assists on 16 buckets while Detroit did not register an assist in the opening 20 minutes.  UDM got no closer than 19 in the second half.

Chase Simon led Detroit with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting.  Chris Blake added 15 with five steals.

Howard's 17-point effort led the way for Butler, part of five Bulldogs in double figures.  Kyhle Marshall scored 16 with Andrew Smith at 15, Shawn Vanzant 14 and Shelvin Mack 10 in an all-around performance.

The Titans will host Valparaiso on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in a homecoming tilt.  The game will be televised live on FOX Sports Detroit HD.

Notes:  Tonight's attendance eclipsed the home opener (2,908) for highest of the season ... Blake's 15 points tied a career high ... Detroit's three assists were a season low.
