DAYTON, Ohio -- Sophomore Dominique Dixon (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) led three Titans in double digits with 19 points, and Detroit came back from a 10-point second-half deficit, but it was just not enough as UDM could not get off a shot at the buzzer and fell, 63-62, on the road to Wright State on Saturday.

Dixon was 8-of-16 from the field on the day. Sophomore Cherridy Thornton (Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior) had 12 points on four 3-pointers, while sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) added 12 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.

The Titans were down by one, 63-62, in the final minute of play and had three chances to try and take the lead, but came up short on each possession. With 45 seconds left, junior Britney Murphy (Saginaw, MI/Arthur Hill) stepped on the baseline going to the rim, but she made up for it forcing a WSU turnover on the other end of the court. Detroit got the ball back with 24 seconds on the clock, but junior Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) jump shot was to strong and the Raiders corralled the defensive board with 1.5 seconds left.

Just when everyone thought the game was over, the Titan defense stepped up as Thornton forced an offensive charge on the WSU throw in giving Detroit the ball back, but with just 1.5 seconds left, UDM could not get off a final shot as time expired.

Detroit (8-8, 2-3 HL) trailed by 10, 46-36, with 10:40 left when the Titans scored nine straight to cut the Wright State (10-6, 3-2 HL) lead to just one. Thornton and Dixon had 3-pointers during the spurt, while Shayok added a basket and Jones connected on 1-of-2 from the charity stripe

WSU maintained its advantage and was ahead by three, 52-49, when Dixon got inside for a basket and after a Raiders' turnover, Thornton hit a 3-pointer to give Detroit a 54-52 lead with 6:32 left in the game.

Both teams would trade the lead in the next three minutes, but two free throws by Jones put the Titans ahead by two, 60-58, with three minutes to go. The Titans and Raiders played some strong defense down the stretch, but Wright State netted the next four points to jump out in front, 62-60, before Jones' runner tied the game for the ninth time at 62-all with 2:09 left.

Jones added five points and five rebounds, while Murphy had eight points and four steals. Detroit forced 25 Wright State turnovers, with 14 steals in the contest, the sixth straight game the defense finished with double-digit steals.

The Titans will stay on the road next week as Detroit travels to Cleveland State on Thursday, Jan. 20. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m., and is part of a road doubleheader with the men playing the Vikings at 7:35 p.m.

Game Notes:
