GREEN BAY, Wis.-- A late 9-0 run helped host Green Bay to an 85-74 win over Detroit Sunday afternoon at the Resch Center. The Phoenix earned a split in the season series with the victory.
Green Bay (12-11, 6-5) leap-frogged Detroit (11-12, 5-6) in the Horizon League standings thanks to an 11-of-20 effort from the three-point line. Neither team established control of the game until the closing minutes when Green Bay went on its final push. With the score 72-69 in favor of Green Bay, the Phoenix scored nine straight to make it a 12-point cushion. Prior to that, neither team held a lead larger than seven points and there were eight lead changes.
Detroit shot well in the opening half, hitting 57 percent of its shots in the first 20 minutes, but Green Bay countered with seven triples on 10 attempts to go into the locker room with a 39-38 advantage. Much of the first half was played without both big men as
Eli Holman and Alec Brown were each saddled with two personal fouls, so the pair played just five and six minutes, respectively.
In Holman's stead,
LaMarcus Lowe gathered six points, five rebounds and two blocks in the opening stanza alone.
In the second half, Detroit led 49-47 after a
Nick Minnerath three and later a
Ray McCallum free throw. The Titans would go almost five-and-a-half minutes without a field goal and Green Bay grabbed a six-point lead. They would manage to hang onto control of the lead from that point and took advantage of Detroit's foul trouble as both Holman and
Jason Calliste had four personals with several minutes remaining in the game.
McCallum led the Titans with 15 points and eight assists.
Chase Simon added a season-high 10 rebounds and Lowe had six points, seven boards and five blocks.
Detroit will embark on a three-game homestand beginning Thursday. The Titans will host UIC in a game to be aired on FOX Sports Detroit HD at 7:30 p.m.
Notes: Lowe moved into UDM's top 10 single-season block records, moving into ninth place with 59 rejections this season ... Holman is fourth on that list after his 77 blocks last season.
