Men’s Soccer to Host Butler on Senior Day

DETROIT -- The men's soccer team will face the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m.  The 2011 regular season home finale will serve as senior day for Mike Chiandussi, Nate Robinson, Otieno Victor, Ya Ya Toure, Sam Seppo, and Julio Castillo.
 
About Detroit
The Titans traveled to Green Bay for a midweek matchup against one of the top teams in the Horizon League on Wednesday night.  The Phoenix opened up a 2-0 lead at the half, and increased it to 3-0 before Moustafa Bazzi put Detroit on the scoreboard.  Green Bay was victorious by the final score of 3-1 pushing Detroit's Horizon League record to 1-4-1.  Bazzi scored the lone goal of the game for the Titans by beating the keeper to the top right corner of the net.  He was able to get behind the Phoenix defense after he received a pass from Matt Ybarra who ended up with an assist on the goal.
 
Pat Lepera and sophomore Adam Bedell are tied for the team lead in points this year with 10.  Each player has three goals and four assists.  Detroit's top goal scorer has been Otieno Victor.  Victor has four goals on the year, giving him eight points.
 
Anthony Shepherd has played well as Detroit's goalkeeper.  The sophomore has faced 293 shots from the opposing team this year (14 games).  He leads the Horizon League with 70 saves.  Shepherd holds a goals against average of 1.65 and posts a save percentage of .745.
 
Scouting Butler
The Bulldogs enter Saturday's contest with an overall record of 6-7-2, including a 1-3-1 mark in the Horizon League.  Butler most recently lost to Cleveland State on Oct. 26 by the final score of 2-1.  Their only league win of the season came against Loyola on Oct. 1.  They defeated the Ramblers 3-1 in Chicago.
 
Austin Oldham leads Butler in points with 15.  He has a team-high six goals to go along with three assists.  Adekunle Oluyedun has also reached double digits in points with four assists and two goals.  The team leader in assists for the Bulldogs is Zach Steinberger.  Steinberger has five assists and a pair of goals giving him nine points.
 
The Bulldogs have used two goalkeepers throughout the season.  Jon Dawson has appeared in 11 games and holds a record of 3-6-1.  Andy Holte has only played in five games, yet his record is 3-1-1.  Dawson is the leader in saves with 39 and in shutouts with two.

All-Time Series
The Titans trail Butler in the overall series 7-20-1.  Detroit lost the most recent matchup 2-0 in 2010.  The last time the Titans defeated the Bulldogs was back in 2006 when Detroit went to Indianapolis to grab a 2-1 victory.

Final Four
Only four players have played in all 15 games for the Titans this season.  Those four student-athletes are Adam Bedell, Pat Lepera, Patrick Soltys, and Matt Ybarra.
 
Bedell Chases All-Time Assist Record
Sophomore Adam Bedell now has 12 career assists placing him in a seven way tie for 16th all-time.  Bedell recorded eight assists as a freshman and currently has four in 2011.  Joining Bedell with 12 career assists is teammate Nate Robinson and former Titans Jason Alexander, Marcel Flemming, Michael Giese, Pete Tangalos, and Dominic Vella.
 
Shepherd With the Save
Sophomore Anthony Shepherd leads the Horizon League in saves with 70.  Brad Stuver of Cleveland State is in second with 60.
 
Overtime Blues
The Titans have played in several close games during the 2011 season.  Through the first 12 contests, six have entered overtime.  Detroit's overall record in overtime games is 1-4-1.  They defeated Michigan State on opening weekend with a penalty kick goal, and they were able to tie Milwaukee 2-2 back on Oct. 8.
 
The Buffalo Bulls escaped Titan Field with a 1-0 win in double overtime, and Wright State defeated Detroit in the Horizon League home opener 2-1 in overtime.  The overtime jinx was extended at Valparaiso as the Crusaders were able to put away Detroit 3-2 and the most recent overtime loss came at Loyola as the Ramblers upset Detroit 1-0 in double overtime on Oct. 15.
 
A Look Ahead
The 2011 season is coming to an end as the Titans are down to their last two games of the regular season.  Detroit will travel to IPFW on Nov. 1 to face the Mastodons at 5:00 p.m.  The season finale will be against Cleveland State on Nov. 4.  The Horizon League Tournament will get underway on Nov. 8.  Semifinal games will continue on Nov. 11, while the championship game will be played on Nov. 13.
