Titans Tie for 7th at HL Meet

Final Results

HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio – The University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team tied for seventh place at the 2011 Horizon League Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon.  Detroit tied UIC by recording 186 points.
 
The Titans battled with Green Bay, UIC, and Valparaiso for sixth place at the league championships.  The four teams were extremely close as Green Bay was awarded sixth with 183 points, while Valpo landed in ninth with 189 points.
 
Butler was the overall winner with a score of 28.  They had the overall winner in Shelbi Burnett (18:40), and the fourth place finisher which was Lauren Haberkorn (19:24).
 
Youngstown State placed second overall with 58 points, and Loyola rounded out the top three with 75 points.  Samantha Hamilton of Youngstown State placed third overall (19:06), while Gina Valgoi took second overall for the Ramblers (18:45).
 
Detroit's top finisher was freshman Zeinab Baydoun.  Baydoun ran at a 6:41 clip to finish 25th overall with a time of 20:44.
 
Katrina Oberski was the next Titan to cross the finish line.  Oberski landed in 33rd place overall with a time of 21:08.  Teammate Kirstin Mooney was close behind in 39th, she finished in 21:21.
 
Olivia Smid and Sarah Martinez also scored for Detroit.  Smid ended the day in 44th place overall with Martinez finishing in 60th.  Smid crossed the line at 21:26, and Martinez followed up at 22:21.
 
Rounding out the effort for Detroit was Torrie Eger and Rachel Hofsess.  Eger placed 67th overall with a time of 22:50.  Hofsess was listed in 80th place clocking in at 23:39.
