Titans Drop Double Overtime Battle to Mastodons 2-1

Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Detroit Titan men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday night to the IPFW Mastodons.  Corey Thompson scored the game-winner in double overtime off an assist from Max Touloute.

Alex Stronczek scored the first goal of the game for IPFW.  Stronczek was able to lift his shot over Anthony Shepherd to give the Mastodons the early 1-0 lead.  Liridon Qafleshi was credited with an assist on the play.

Detroit tied the game late in the first half on a goal scored by Jon Bowman.  Bowman scored his first goal of his career off an assist from Jeremy Stoychoff.

Bowman was 10 yards out when he received the pass.  His shot bounced over a sliding goalkeeper tying the game 1-1.  The goal was huge for the Titans as they were playing a man down after senior Ya Ya Toure received a red card in the 30th minute of action.

The score remained tied at the end of regulation to force overtime.  The first overtime period came and went, but Thompson gave IPFW the victory with his first goal of the season in the second.

Shepherd played well overall as the Detroit keeper.  He ended the night with 10 saves.  Brandon Cloutier came up with four stops for the Mastodons.

Detroit will end the 2011 regular season with a showdown against the Cleveland State Vikings.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
