DETROIT -- Tommy Titan along with members of the men's and women's lacrosse team helped put a smile on a number of kid's faces as they all took part in the 49th Annual Holy Trinity's Children's Christmas party.
Emily Boissonneault,
Megan Callahan and
Zaynib Hamze from the women's lacrosse team and
Wes Steen from the men's lacrosse program along with the lovable Tommy Titan teamed with other volunteers – from college students to local firefighters – to give a Christmas party to over 500 children in the community.
“I had a great time going at the Christmas party,” said Steen. “It was super exciting seeing all the kids light up when Tommy came out with Santa and his crew. Even though many of them didn't know who Tommy Titan was, they treated him like a Rock Star!”
The kids who attended the event not only got an early start to Christmas with some gifts and clothes, but all enjoyed a great feast with children favorite's pizza and chicken nuggets on the menu.
The Titans and Tommy mingled and played with all the children, while face painting, magicians, and clowns all had the kids laughing and smiling. Off course what Christmas party could be complete without Santa Claus making an appearance for all the children.
The tradition of the Holy Trinity Children's Christmas party started with Father Clement Kern, a former pastor at the church, who wanted to help spread the Christmas spirit to families who were not in the best economic standing.
The project continued throughout the years with the Reardon family of Grosse Pointe Farms taking more of a role and eventually helping to put everything together.
“I was surprised to see just how willing all the children were to share with each other in the Christmas spirit. I had a wonderful time helping facilitate the festivities,” added Steen.
