DES MOINES, Iowa-- An 11-0 run in the closing minutes lifted the host Drake Bulldogs past the Detroit Titans, 84-76, at the Knapp Center Saturday night in non-conference action.  The game was played as part of the Sears BracketBusters event.

The Bulldogs (12-16) exploded out of the gate, making 10-of-14 shots in the early going and raced out to a 26-14 lead midway through the opening half.  The Titans (15-15) stemmed the tide and eventually trimmed the lead down to five, where it stood at halftime, 39-34.  Chase Simon had 11 first-half points-- en route to a game-high 23-- to lead the way and Eli Holman added eight points and seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

Coming out of the break, this time it was Detroit's turn to get off to a hot start.  The Titans made eight of their first 11 shots (10-13) in the second stanza and took their first lead.  Ray McCallum's triple in transition staked UDM to a 52-50 advantage.  Detroit, behind the hot shooting of Simon, would stretch its lead to as many as four.  Drake battled back to reclaim the lead at 69-68 and the teams would briefly exchange leads.

The play that acted as the catalyst for the 11-0 run was Holman's fifth personal foul on an over-the-back call with just under four minutes remaining.  The Bulldogs then went on their spurt, scoring six quick points over the next 1:14 and the once-quieted crowd returned with Drake's 78-71 lead.  Ben Simons hit a triple to make it an 11-0 Drake run and the Bulldogs never looked back.

Drake was led by a 22-point effort by freshman Rayvonte Rice.  Detroit had four players in double figures with Simon's 23, a dozen apiece from Holman and McCallum and 11 more from Nick Minnerath.

Detroit will close out the regular season Friday with a key matchup at Wright State.  A win would secure the fifth-seed for the Titans in the upcoming Horizon League tournament.   Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on ESPNU.

Notes:  Detroit is now 5-4 all-time in the BracketBuster event ... Simon's 23-point output was the 19th 20-point game by a Titan this season and his fifth (tied for most on the team with Minnerath).
