CHICAGO -- The Detroit women's basketball team forced 25 turnovers, but it was not enough as the Titans fell on the road to UIC, 53-40, on Thursday night.

Junior Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) led six Titan scorers with 11 points, while recording four steals and three rebounds. Sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) posted another double-digit rebounding effort with 11 boards and added six points, while junior Britney Murphy (Saginaw, MI/Arthur Hill) and sophomore Dominique Dixon (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) netted eight points apiece.

The 25 turnovers forced by the Titans tied a season high as Detroit had 25 takeaways at Wright State earlier in the year.

Both teams struggled on offense to start the contest combining to shoot just 2-of-16 from the field with six turnovers. Even with the slow start, the Titans took the lead scoring eight of the game's first 10 points before opening their largest lead of seven, 13-6, with 11:12 left in the first half.

Detroit (11-15, 5-10 HL) was ahead by five, 17-12, with 6:38 remaining in the first when the Flames caught fire scoring 12 straight to jump out in front by seven, 24-17. A three by Dixon ended that run, but a late UIC (13-13, 8-7 HL) basket sent the home team into the half with a 26-20 advantage.

UIC increased its lead to eight, 30-22, early in the second half, but a layup by Murphy and two free throws by Jones cut that deficit in half. Detroit was still down by just four, 34-30, when the Flames went on a 9-0 spurt over the next six minutes to open a double-digit lead.

UDM was able to creep back within nine on two occasions, the latest at 45-36 with 4:39 left after Dixon connected on a pair of free throws, but UIC was able to push its advantage back to double digits to end the game.

The Titans will end their last regular season road trip on Saturday as Detroit visits Jesuit rival Loyola. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. (EST) at the Gentile Center.
