DETROIT – The Detroit women's lacrosse team will get the 2011 season underway with a contest against the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday, Feb. 26. The opening draw will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Titan Field.
Fans are encouraged to come out and support Titans during their first game of the season. A year ago Detroit recorded an overall record of 7-13 with a National Lacrosse Conference mark of 3-3. The excitement level is high as the team leader in goals (68), assists (15), and points (83) returns for her junior season.
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON, Donald A. Wilson Secondary) will likely regain her starting position to help the offensive attack.
Megan Wallace (Westbury, NY, Hicksville Senior) and
Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN, Totino-Grace) have both been named team captains for the 2011 season. Wallace serves as the team's emotional leader while Eidem put up impressive stats a year ago with 55 goals and 14 assists.
Alycsa Valentine (Shelby Township, MI, Eisenhower) and
Britany Busch (Clio, MI, Powers Catholic) will try to keep the pressure off goalkeeper
Marybeth Flanagan (Lansing, MI, Waverly) as key defenders for the Titans. Flanagan played in 12 games for Detroit as a freshman, and will also get the nod as the starter in 2011.
