WARREN, Mich.-- The Detroit Titan men's basketball team held its annual postseason banquet at Andiamo Restaurant Monday night.  The event featured an opportunity for fans and supporters to interact with the team as the yearly awards were presented to those deserving student-athletes.

The Robert Calihan Most Valuable Player award, as voted on by the team, was given to a pair of junior leaders in Nick Minnerath and Eli Holman.  The starting front court for the Titans, the duo was an imposing force in the middle in 2010-11.

Holman followed-up an impressive sophomore season with another solid performance in his junior campaign.  The big man racked-up a league-high 13 double-doubles while leading the circuit in both offensive (3.5 rpg) and defensive (6.1) rebounds.   Holman was a Second Team All-Horizon League selection and was named to the All-Defensive Team for the second straight year.  He was the Legends Classic MVP during the Thanksgiving tournament held at Calihan Hall.

While Holman carried the load in the first half of the season, Minnerath used a solid second half to post 11.2 points per contest, including six 20-point games since the turn of the calendar year.  After transferring from Jackson Community College before the season, Minnerath wasted little time getting acclimated to NCAA Division I basketball, starting all 33 games for the Titans.  The 6-foot-9 forward was the team's best free throw shooter, hitting at a .832 clip (104-125).

Ray McCallum was lauded for his Second Team All-League selection, in addition to his sportsmanship (Frank Gerbig, Sr. Sportsmanship Award) and collected the most assists, steals and post feeds in his rookie season.  The coach's son was the first Titan true freshman to be named to an all-league team.

Chase Simon was recognized with the John Kirwan Award as one of the team's leading scorers (13.5 ppg).  Simon was the top scorer in 2009-10 en route to over 1,000 collegiate points in just three seasons.  He has 909 points in a Detroit uniform and will be aiming to become the 35th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau at the school in his senior season.

He shares the honor with Ray McCallum, who started all 33 games in his rookie season and racked-up 446 points this season.  He was named the Horizon League's Newcomer of the Year and was selected to the All-League Second Team.  McCallum became the first Titans true freshman to be named to an all-conference team in the program's history.  He topped-off his superb frosh effort by ranking in the top handful of players nationally in assists (161) while leading the team in steals (54) and free throws made (141).

Special thanks for Monday's event goes out to FOX Sports Detroit for all their efforts this season with the "Detroit Titan Court Report" and the highlight package shown prior to the awards ceremony and to Andiamo Warren for hosting a night filled with Titan pride.
