INDIANAPOLIS -- Sophomore
Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) dominated the boards during the 2010-11 season and now that the stats have been locked and sealed, the second-year forward officially ended the year 27th in the nation in rebounding.
Shayok grabbed 10.2 boards per game in finishing among the top 30 in the nation, while also leading the Horizon League. She pulled down double-digit boards 17 times – with 10 double doubles - becoming just the fifth Titan in school history to average double digits in rebounds and the first since Cheryl Day did it 1990.
Detroit was also in the top 50 in turnovers finishing 43rd with just 15.2 per game.
In the Horizon League, junior
Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) was fifth in assists handing out 3.6 per game as well as fifth with a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. Sophomore
Dominique Dixon (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) was 17th in scoring at 12.2 ppg., while sophomore
Cherridy Thornton's (Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior) 53 3-pointers ranked 10th.
As a team in the HL, UDM was third in scoring defense (63.1), 3-point field-goal percentage defense (.314) and rebounding offense (37.7).
