DETROIT – The men's soccer team tasted defeat for the first time this season as Buffalo came up with a 1-0 win in double overtime.
Nate Woods scored the game-winning goal on Sunday afternoon at Titan Field as the rain had just started to let up. After battling for over 100 minutes, the Bulls pushed the ball into Titan territory late in double overtime.
Maksym Kowal hit a shot into a defender and the ball went to Woods who connected on the goal hitting the top right corner of the net.
Anthony Shepherd tried to make the save but the ball was out of reach improving the Bulls overall record to 2-0-1, while the Titans sit at 2-1.
The game was close in every aspect as each team took 14 shots, and four corner kicks. Both Shepherd and Jonathan Viscosi recorded four saves. Detroit ended with five total thanks to a team save.
The Titans ended the game playing a man down as senior
Sam Seppo was forced to leave the game after picking up a red card.
The Titans will play in the Adidas Classic this upcoming weekend, and then return to face the Michigan Wolverines on Sept. 14. Game one of the Adidas Classic will be against Davidson on Friday, Sept. 9 and the trip will end with a game against Appalachian State on Sunday, Sept. 11.
