FULL RESULTS
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The first indoor track and field meet of 2012 took place in Mount Pleasant as Central Michigan hosted the Chippewa Invitational Friday with both Titan track teams in action. After a 15 event-competition, both the men's and women's teams finished in second place.
The throwers took the stage first and sophomores
Eric Lewis and
Jeff Sherman neared personal bests as Lewis tossed 15.83m and Sherman 13.10m with their first throws. Lewis went on to capture third place with a 51-11.25 and Sherman placed sixth setting a new PR at 47-4.50.
In high jump, freshman
Justin Peguese cleared at 1.85m on the first jump and on the second leap, set a new PR at 1.95 to finish fifth and total 6-4.75 in a solid showing.
In the long jump, junior
Bri Soule jumped 5.14m on her first attempt and finished in second place with a 5.24m in her final jump for a 17-2.25. Soule was also in the 200m dash and won the opening heat to advance to the finals as she timed a 28.04. In the triple jump, Soule set a new PR with a 33-8.75 and senior
Susan Kalkstein finished right behind her with a 33-1.25.
In the long jump, freshman Hanna Hunt made her debut with a total of 13-9.75.
In the 60-meter hurdles on the track, sophomore
Brandee Hart on the women's side and senior
Aviram Campbell and junior Taylor Henrick on the men's side all advanced to the finals. Hart went on to set a new personal best and a third place finish, and the second best career Titan time, in the finals with a time of 9.01. Campbell finished second setting a new PR clocking in at 8.30 while junior
Vince Lefler came in third with his own PR at 8.38. Henrick finished sixth with a time of 8.69.
In the 60-meter dash, senior
Vushaun Landrum placed fourth with a time of 7.09.
Also in the 60m dash, sophomore
Nicole Meisner, senior
Sequoyia Calhoun and Hart all advanced to the final heat as Meisner crossed with a time of 8.05, Hart at 8.07 and Calhoun at 8.15.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman
Victor Mattison made his collegiate and indoor debut. In the race, he was leading the way after 300 meters and on the tighter turns on the indoor track ended up posting a time of 52.10 which was good for a second place finish.
Junior
Sarah Martinez placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.11 and junior
Olivia Smid came in right behind her at 2:34.22
The 4x400m relay teams saw both the men's and the women's teams place second. The men's team of
Joe LaRocca,
Vince Lefler, Mattison, and
Joe Raffin finished with a time of 3:29.15 as Mattison ran a 50.8 split time. The women's team of Calhoun, Meisner, Hart, and
Nikia Duncan crossed the line at 4:14.66.
Junior
Shannon Marchant competed in her second race as a Titan and she set a new career high with a 145.73 time in the 600-meter run.
The next competition for the teams will come on Jan. 21 at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational to be held in Ann Arbor, MI.
