Titans Fall Late at Michigan State

Box Score

EAST LANSING, Mich. (10/10/12) -The Detroit Titans men's soccer team fell to Michigan State 1-0 on a late goal scored by Luke Norman Wednesday afternoon at the DeMartin Soccer Complex.

The Titans were on the attack early in the match as Adam Bedell ripped a shot on goal during the sixth minute of action, but Zach Bennett deflected the ball away from goal to spoil the early scoring chance. The Spartans then responded with two corners within 40 seconds of each other but Nathan Steinwascher was able to fight both of them off to keep the game scoreless.

Steinwascher then made another save in the 40th minute of the first half off a free kick to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime. Steinwascher made three saves in the first half, while the Spartans fired a total of six shots, three on net.

Michigan State (5-6-1) repeated its performance in the second half, with six more shots, as it took until the 87th minute before the Spartans were able to get on the board. Ryan Thelen took the first shot on goal that Steinwascher was able to make the initial save, but Norman was able to put back the rebound to record the only goal of the game.

Detroit (5-6, 2-0 HL) will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 12 when it travels to Dayton, Ohio to face Horizon League foe Wright State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Field and will be streamed live on the Horizon League Network.
