DETROIT (10/24/2012) -- Sophomore
Shareta Brown continues to pile up the preseason honors as the second-year forward was named to CollegeSportsMadness.com's All-High Major Third Team.
The award comes after she was named to the Horizon League Preseason First Team as well as CollegeSportsMadness.com's preseason HL First Team.
As a freshman, Brown was the Team MVP after breaking the school record with 611 total points on the year. She averaged 18.0 points per game – fourth in the Horizon League – and became the first Titan to lead the team in scoring since head coach Autumn Rademacher did it with 15.2 ppg., in 1994. Brown also tallied 8.8 rebounds for eighth in the conference and led the HL and was fifth in the nation in field-goal percentage (55.9%).
Her postseason awards after her rookie year included earning Co- Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-League by the Horizon League as well as HL and the National High Major Freshman of the Year and All-Horizon League First Team honors by CollegeSportsMadness.com. She was a seven-time Jesuit Basketball Spotlight honoree and the Jesuit Basketball Player of the Week once, and was also selected to the Collegesports360.com Primetime Performers Honor Roll.
Brown and the Titans continue to hit the hardwood in practice and will open the exhibition season on Monday, Oct. 29, against Lawrence Tech. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission will be free. There will also be a Halloween costume contest for all those that dress up and the Titans will have a team autograph session following the game. Also, some treats will be distributed to all kids in attendance (while supplies last).
