CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25
MACON, Ga. (11/6/2012) -- The Detroit women's basketball team finished the preseason 2-0 with a victory on Monday and today, the Titans learned that they are currently receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
The Titans totaled 43 points in this year's first edition of the poll, and were one of just two Horizon League teams represented as Green Bay was ranked second. The CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 is now in its third season of existence.
Detroit was picked to finish second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll back in early October, garnering 210 points, including two first-place votes.
UDM was runner-up at last year's Horizon League Championship and were second during the regular season finishing with a 20-14 overall record, including a 14-4 mark in the conference. Detroit returns eight letterwinners from that squad that advanced to the postseason WNIT for the first time in school history.
The 20-win season was also the first by the Titans since 1997, when the red, white and blue made its lone NCAA Tournament appearance.
Detroit will open the season on Friday as the Titans make the short trip to Ann Arbor to face the Michigan Wolverines. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m., at the Crisler Center.
