ANN ARBOR, Mich. (11/9/2012) --
Sophomore Shareta Brown led three Titans in double figures and Detroit cut an 18-point first-half deficit down to five, but UDM could not get any closer as it fell on the road to Michigan, 70-62, on Friday evening at the Crisler Center.

Brown netted a game-high 19 points – 17 in the second half - and also pulled down eight rebounds.

Sophomore Audrey Matteson scored a career-high 12 points, grabbed a career-best nine boards and handed out three assists, while senior Yar Shayok totaled 12 points and seven boards.

The Titans trailed by 18, 38-20, with 2:36 left in the first when they finally found their rhythm scoring 12-straight points. Senior Demeisha Fambro started the run with a three and followed that with another basket to get UDM within 13 at the half, 38-25.

Brown then tallied five-straight points to begin the second period and Shayok got inside for a basket to pull UDM within six, 38-32, at the 17:11 mark.

Michigan was able to hold off that UDM charge and extend its lead back to 10, 46-36, but the Titans came back with five-straight points and would trail by five on three occasions, the latest at 52-47, with 7:28 left.

Every time the Titans got within two possessions, the Wolverines came back with a basket, hitting 3-pointers each time to get the lead back up.

Michigan would push its advantage back to double-digits at 62-51 and 64-53, but the red, white and blue showed no quit going on an 8-2 run in the final two minutes, and once again trailed by just five, 66-61, with 34 seconds left.

Brown started the last spurt with an inside bucket and freshman Rosanna Reynolds hit a trey and UDM was down by six, 64-58, with just under a minute left. After U-M hit two free throws, Brown connected on the old-fashioned three-point play to get UDM to 66-61, but that was as close as it got with the maize and blue sinking all four of its free throws down the stretch.

Fambro ended the game with nine points, while Reynolds and junior Megan Hatter scored five apiece. Reynolds also added a team-high four assists.

It was all Matteson in the first half as the second-year guard nailed three 3-pointers in the first five minutes to keep UDM in the game as it trailed by five, 14-9. Her career-high fourth trey came at the 11:30 mark to cut a 10-point Michigan lead down to seven, 23-16. From there, U-M went on a 13-2 run to open its largest lead of the game, 36-18.

Detroit ended the contest shooting 37.1% from the field with seven trifectas, while Michigan shot 50% from the field and from behind the arc (11-of-22). UDM did outrebound the Wolverines, 36-33.

The Titans will come home to the friendly confines of Calihan Hall as Detroit welcomes Canisius on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The game is part of Annual National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week and all fans who donate canned goods at the game WILL RECEIVE COMPLIMENTARY ADMISSION to watch the Titans square off against the Golden Griffins. .

Notes:
It was the third time in school history that UDM opened up with in-state rival Michigan, falling in 1998 and 2001…The Titans still lead the all-time series, 12-11… Matteson's previous career high was seven points against IPFW last season…Detroit gave up 70 or more points just three times last year…Shayok is now 83 points away from 1,000…Today's game tied the Titans record for the earliest start in school history as they also opened up on Nov 9 against Western Carolina in 2007.
