Postgame Interview With Fambro

ATHENS, Ohio (12/2/2012) --
Behind a 23-3 run – including nine-straight points from senior Demeisha Fambro - the Detroit women's basketball team went on the road and captured a double-digit victory at Ohio, 65-53, on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

The win moved Detroit to 4-3 on the season as UDM won its third-straight over a Mid-American Conference opponent, while Ohio fell to 1-5.

Fambro ended the game with 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Shareta Brown tallied 19 points, tied her season high with 15 rebounds and handed out a season-best six assists. Freshman Rosanna Reynolds had 14 points, while sophomore Audrey Matteson netted five points and pulled down a career-best 13 rebounds

After racing out to a quick 6-0 lead, the Titans saw Ohio crash the glass early and take control of the game, opening up a 24-17 advantage midway through the first half.

That is when the Titans caught fire with Fambro leading the Titan charge on an 18-3 run to end the half. After Brown got inside for a layup, Fambro went on a personal 9-0 run and she did it from all over connecting on a jump shot, hitting a three, nailing two from the free throw line and then driving to the rim for a layup as UDM took a 28-24 lead at the 3:28 mark. The spurt would extend to 13 straight with senior Yar Shayok getting inside for a basket.

After Ohio hit a trey, Detroit went into the half with five-straight points as Reynolds hit a three and off a steal by Fambro, Shayok got loose inside for a basket and a 35-27 lead at the break.

Coming out of the half, the Titan onslaught continued as Fambro added another layup and Brown broke the defense down for a basket to put the red, white and blue out in front, 39-27.

Ohio would trim the Detroit advantage down to six on a few occasions, the latest at 52-46 with 8:27 left, but UDM would put the game away with an 11-0 run in the next three minutes to give the Titans its largest lead of the day, 63-46, with 5:21 remaining. Once that lead went to double-digits, it never got under 10 as Detroit sealed away the rest of the game for the 12-point victory.

Shayok finished with six points, seven rebounds and three assists and junior Megan Hatter totaled four points and four boards.

The Titan defense held Ohio to just 30.4% shooting and outrebounded the Bobcats, 48-37. UDM shot 45.6%, including 51.9% in the first half, and held a 44-14 advantage in points in the paint.

Detroit will continue its MAC swing on Thursday as the Titans travel to Muncie, Ind., to face Ball State. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
