THE DETROIT-UIC SERIES
UIC has won three in a row over Detroit, including a tough 66-59 contest at home on Jan. 5. Detroit still leads the series, 21-19, and won three in a row prior to the recent Flames' hot streak.

The Titans are 11-10 all-time against UIC in the Motor City and have won three of the last four meetings in Calihan Hall. Last season, the Flames won in Detroit, 66-58.

ABOUT THE FLAMES
UIC saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday as the Flames lost at Wright State, 80-70. UIC enters the game at 13-8, 6-4 in the Horizon League.

The Flames are third in the HL in scoring defense allowing just 59.0 points per game. They also top the conference with a 5.8 rebounding margin.

UIC is led by three seniors in Jasmine Bailey - second in the HL in scoring (18.5) and third in rebounding (9.7) - Shamiea Green (15.9 ppg., and Kiara Strickland (12.0 ppg., 6.1 rpg.).

PUTTING THE “D” IN DETROIT
The Detroit Titans have displayed some tough, aggressive defense in their last two games, holding Cleveland State to 43 points and Loyola to 59.

UDM held the Vikings to just 25% shooting (13-of-52), including 20.8% in the first half (5-of-24) as well as just a 3-of-18 effort from three-point range.

The 13 field goals were the fewest by a Titan opponent since Marygrove had 11 in a 68-27 win last season.

The 43 points were also the fewest points allowed against a Division I school since a 52-43 triumph over Youngstown State last year.

The Titans held Cleveland State to 17 first-half points, the third time this season they have held an opponent under 20 and tying the lowest it has allowed all year with the 17 Milwaukee scored in the second half.

The Titans then came back to hold Loyola - the second highest scoring team in the HL - to 59 points, including 22 in the first half. In the opening stanza, UDM saw Loyola shoot just 7-of-31 (22.6%), while outrebounding the Ramblers, 28-12.

In the last two games, Detroit is holding its opponents to 51 points per game, 30% shooting from the field, 27% from three, while forcing 22 turnovers.

WAY AHEAD OF LAST YEAR
With its victory against Loyola, the Titans posted their seventh conference win on the season, one more than the six they had a year ago.

With 11 wins, Detroit is now just two wins shy of last year's overall win mark.

Also, UDM's 7-3 start in league play is its best start since going 8-2 in 2010.

NOW THAT'S OFFENSE
Detroit's 51 points in the first half against Loyola were a season high for the first period of play. It was also the second 50-point half of the season following the 53 UDM had in the second stanza against IPFW.

Overall, the 83 points was the third highest total on the season (behind the 90 against IPFW and 87 at Ball State) and were the most scored against a Horizon League foe since the Titans beat Milwaukee on the road last year, 90-76.

CATCH US IF YOU CAN
In Detroit's win over Loyola, the Titan led by double figures for the last 33 minutes of the contest and by 20 or more for just over 27 minutes in the game.

The 24-point margin was also the second-highest on the season following the 90-60 victory over IPFW, and the most by the Titans in a HL game since an 80-44 win at home against Youngstown State in 2010.

SHAYOK GETTING IT DONE
Junior Yar Shayok has netted a season-high 14 points in each of the last two games.

She also added a double-double with 10 rebounds against Loyola.

In the last two games, she is 10-of-16 from the field (62.5%), while averaging 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

CAN'T SPELL SENEE WITHOUT SOME 3'S
Detroit sophomore Senee Shearer is certainly earning the reputation as a sharpshooter.

On the year, 41 of her 73 field goals have been 3-pointers, including eight of her last nine in the last three games.

She has 10 games on the year with three or more treys, with her season high of five against Michigan.

Her 41 3-pointers are tied for the third most in the Horizon League, and she is now averaging 10.0 points per game.

PUTNAM BACK ON TRACK
Junior Chanahl Putnam had 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and three 3-pointers against Loyola.

The 13 markers tied her season high for the fourth time this season. It was also the first time she was in double figures since netting 13 at UTSA back on Nov. 26.

She had missed six games and was in and out of the line-up since suffering an injury at Michigan State on Dec. 6.

In her first eight games - prior to her injury at Michigan State - Putnam was in double digits six times, while averaging 10.8 ppg.

HIGH 5
Detroit had five players in double figures for the third time this season in its 83-59 victory over Loyola.

The other two occasions occurred in wins over Wright State (75-64) and at Ball State (87-68).

JONES MARCHING HER WAY TO THE TOP
Senior Jalesa Jones began the season in seventh place on the Titan all-time assists list, but she has climbed all the way to second place and is now just 26 away from the record.

She currently has 460 assists - passing the likes of current head coach Autumn Rademacher (439) and Jocelyn Boyd (451).

Jones now trails only Mary Lillie who posted 486 during her career (1978-82).

As a freshman, Jones had 84 assists, while collecting 159 as a sophomore and 112 last year.

For her career, she is tallying 4.0 apg.

GETTING OFFENSIVE
The Detroit offense is coming off an 83-point outing against Loyola.

It was the ninth time season that UDM has scored 70 or more, with eight of those games occurring in the last 13 contests.

Since Dec. 1, the Titans are averaging 70.2 points per game.

That offense has also helped Detroit post a 10-3 record in that span.

In Detroit's first nine games, it was averaging just 57.1 points per game, and all of last year, Detroit only topped 70 points six times.

During this stretch, the Titans tallied a season-best 90 points against IPFW on Dec. 18, 87 at Ball State and 83 against Loyola.

The 90 points (53 in the second half) were the most by Detroit since posting 90 in a winning effort at Milwaukee last season and the most UDM has scored at home since a 94-67 victory against Cleveland State on Jan. 12, 2002.

It is also the second most by a Horizon League team this season.

YAR IN FIFTH & LOOKING FOR MORE

Junior forward Yar Shayok moved even closer to fourth place on the school's all-time rebounding mark with her 10 boards against Loyola.

She currently has 780 career rebounds and is in prime position to move all the way up to second place as she trails Faith Cyr (798), Cassandra Pack (826) and Lisa Blackburn (846). Cheryl Williams tops the Titan record book with 1,368.

In her career, she is averaging 9.2 rpg., and has 38 games with double-digit rebounds, including 17 as a redshirt freshman and 16 as a sophomore.

HOLDING THE LEAD
Detroit is 10-1 on the season when it is leading with 10 minutes left in the game and 11-0 when ahead with five minutes remaining.

The lone loss that UDM has endured when up with 10 minutes left was a 66-59 setback at UIC on Jan. 5.

JJ TURNING IT ON
Senior Jalesa Jones has played well in her senior year after a slow start. In her last 13 games, she has been in double figures in scoring seven times while averaging 9.2 ppg. She has also handed out five or more assists eight times in that stretch, an average of 5.6, and has also pulled down five or more rebounds five times.

GETTING TO THE LINE

Detroit's strong post game and aggressiveness has the Titans currently leading the Horizon League in free throw attempts with 414 on the season.

Detroit also leads the league with 294 made free throws, good for a 71.0% clip, fourth in the Horizon League.

GAME # 1000 APPROACHING
It is year 34 of Titan basketball and the history is quickly reaching 1,000 as the Titans will play in their 997th career game on Saturday.

As long as there are no cancellations or reschedules, Detroit is set to play its 1,000 career game at Wright State on Feb. 16.

UDM is 512-484 in its history, which started on Dec. 1, 1977 with an 82-29 victory over Olivet at home.

The Titans have had 19 winning seasons, including six 20-win campaigns.

They have won two Horizon League titles, including the 1997 MCC Championship, which sent the red, white and blue to its only NCAA Tournament.

TITANS DOMINATING THE BOARDS
Detroit has outrebounded its opponent in 17 of its 22 games on the year and owns a +5.6 rebounding margin on the season, second in the Horizon League behind UIC's + 5.8 tally.

With its 49-31 margin over Loyola, Detroit has now recorded a double-digit rebounding margin in eight on the year.
Against Bowling Green on Nov. 22, UDM posted a 56-31 advantage on the boards, including a 24-8 mark on the offensive glass.

The 56 rebounds are also the second most by a Horizon League team this season, following Wright State's 57 at Loyola.

The +25 rebounding margin was also the most by the Titans since posting a +24 mark (55-31) against Youngstown State last season.

The Titans also dominated Indiana State to the tune of a 40-24 effort and IPFW, 40-23.

On the year, the Titans are second in the conference averaging 39.1 rebounds per game, including 13.1 offensive rebounds per contest, third in the HL.
