DETROIT -- For the third time this year, freshman forward
Shareta Brown (Pontiac, MI/Grand Blanc) has earned the College SportsMadness.com Horizon League Player of the Week, announced the website on Monday.
Brown averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the Titan wins over Loyola and UIC. She also shot over 50% hitting 12-of-23 from the field.
She started the weekend sweep of the Horizon League Chicago schools with her ninth double-double of the season finishing with 13 points and 11 boards against the Ramblers. She then netted 16 points and grabbed six rebounds in the overtime victory over UIC.
On the season, Brown is eighth nationally in field-goal percentage connecting at a 55.4% clip, which also leads the Horizon League. She is also eighth in the HL and 75th in the country with 8.8 rebounds per game, while standing sixth in the league in scoring (16.0).
Senior
Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) tops the conference with 4.9 assists per game, good for 44th in the nation. Sophomore
Senee Shearer (Detroit, MI/Pershing) is also among the conference leaders as her 46 3-pointers are the third-most in the league.
As a team, the Titans are second in the HL and 50th in the country with a +5.0 rebounding margin, while ranking third in the conference and 60th in Division I in field-goal percentage (41.8%).
Detroit returns to action on Thursday when UDM visits nationally-ranked Green Bay at the Kress Events Center. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. (EST).
