COLUMBUS, Ohio --
Scott Harris netted three goals and
Joel Matthews added two but the Titans ran into a rough match-up falling 11-6 to the Buckeyes (1-0) Thursday evening. It was the season opener for Ohio State and the second game of the year for Detroit (0-2).
The Buckeyes jumped out to a 2-0 lead early before
Shayne Adams scored the first goal of the night for Detroit. Adams tallied an unassisted marker at even strength with 6:34 left in the first quarter for his fourth of the year. Another goal from Ohio State made it a 3-1 contest heading into the second frame.
Matthews scored his first of the evening at the 4:21 mark of the second quarter as
Brandon Beauregard collected an assist to make it a 4-2 game. Another OSU goal would light up the scoreboard before Harris put it in his first of three on the night for Detroit and make the score 5-3. Harris took a pass from Tom Masterton for his second overall and second man-advantage goal of the year with 4:23 left in the first half.
Three Buckeye goals in the final 2:35, including one with just one second remaining on the clock, sent the score into the break, 8-3, in favor of Ohio State.
Detroit came out in the second half determined to make a push and did just that as three straight goals cut the lead to 8-6 and nine minutes still remaining in the third quarter.
Harris started the Titan surge just 1:17 in the second half. His unassisted goal led to a man-advantage goal from Matthews whose third of the year with 11:47 still to go in the third. Harris would put in his final goal of the night tying Adams for the team lead with four tallies on the young season, to make it 8-6 and Detroit looking to edge even closer.
The Titans would not be able to complete the comeback as three more goals would finish the scoring on the evening.
A.J. Levell made 13 saves in net for Detroit.

Notes: The Titans played at Ohio State last year and fell by a 4-3 score, the lowest scoring game of 2011 for Detroit…The Titans were at Ohio State for their inaugural game back in 2009 as OSU won 21-1.
