This will be the third meeting between the two schools with each posting a one-goal victory on its home field. In 2010, seven different Titans found the back of the net at Canisius, but
Tyler Staruch's last second shot hit the post and UDM fell, 9-8.
Last season, Detroit led 9-6 with 3:15 left when Canisius tied the game with three-straight goals in the next two minutes. The contest went into overtime and with 1:46 remaining, senior
Scott Harris was able to fire in the game winner as UDM won, 10-9, on Titan Field.
The Titans went 3-4 in its first seven non-conference games and considering that six were on the road, not one was a true home game and a pair of ranked teams were on the docket, Detroit has definitely prepared itself for league play.
UDM is 3-2 in its last five games and going back to last season, the Titans are 8-7 in their last 15 games, a stark improvement over the 4-30 mark they were in their first 34 contests as a Division I program.
UDM is coming of a 13-10 win at Quinnipiac last week. Sophomore
Joel Matthews led the offense with a career-high seven points on three goals and a career-best four assists. The defense aided in the win as the Bobcats had 27 turnovers, including 14 caused by the Titans.
The hat trick was the ninth of his Matthews' career, a number that has him tied for 19th in the nation among active players. He also leads the team with 27 points on 15 goals and a team-high 12 assists. He is currently 21st in the nation with 3.86 points per game and tied for 44th in goals tallying 2.14 per game.
Sophomore
Shayne Adams is tied for the team lead with 15 goals, while Harris has posted 10 goals and four assists. Sophomore
Alex Maini is also on pace to pass his freshman year stats with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points.
Junior LSM
Jordan Houtby is once again leading an aggressive Titan defense as Detroit ranks third in the country with 10.57 caused turnovers per game. Houtby has 20 caused turnovers and 36 ground balls on the year and is second in the nation with 2.71 caused TO's per game and 24th picking up 5.15 ground balls per contest.
Canisius comes into the game at 1-1 with a 13-10 victory at Albany last Saturday. Simon Giourmetakis led the team with six goals and he has a team-high eight points on the year. Prior to that, the Golden Griffins dropped their season opener at No. 3 Cornell, 19-4.
