DETROIT (8/29/12) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball assistant coach
Jay Smith recently attended the 9th Annual Coaching Clinic at the University of Florida. The clinic has always served as a strong resource for selected coaches to share information and gain knowledge for the upcoming season. Smith has attended the clinic for the last two years.
“It was a terrific event,” stated Smith. “It gave me an opportunity to share new thoughts with coaches and talk about each other's programs.”
The clinic was loaded with big name collegiate and professional coaches from across country including Erik Spoelstra from the Miami Heat and former Indianapolis Colts head coach and Super Bowl champion Tony Dungy.
“Tony Dungy was outstanding! He did a great job of talking about how coaches' impact players lives,” said Smith.
The two day camp also featured offensive and defensive sessions, along with team situations including shootarounds, workouts and off the court techniques.
Other coaches that attended the clinic were Tim Floyd (UTEP), Jamie Dixon (Pittsburgh), Brad Brownell (Clemson), Matt Painter (Purdue), Billy Donovan (Florida) and Flip Saunders of the NBA.
