NOTRE DAME, Ind. (9/15/2012) -- Sophomore
Colin Creagh led four Titans that finished in the top 100 as the Titans took 12th at the 33rd Annual National Catholic Championship, held on the Notre Dame Cross Country Course.
“The men ran pretty good and I was a bit worried since a few of them were fighting colds,” said head coach Guy Murray. “We had a couple of guys real close to big runs. It was a real positive start for the first 8k of the season.”
Detroit totaled 375 points in its first 8k of the season. Notre Dame won the race for the fourth-straight year with 31 points.
Creagh was the top UDM runner and he improved on his time and place from last season (83rd-26:19) taking 45th in 26:01, tying his personal record that he originally set at last year's Greater Louisville Classic.
Junior
Martin Nelkie also finished higher than last season (61st) placing 49th. His time of 26:04 was actually the same time he ran last year in the event.
Senior
Edwin Gay claimed 84th in 26:29, while sophomore
Ylli Alla ran a career-best 26:38 to come in 97th place.
Some other PR's on the day included sophomore
Ryan Hofsess finishing 117th in 26:53, taking nearly 45 seconds of her previous 8k low, and sophomore
George Holman running 27:34 for 163rd.
Detroit will have next week off and will return to action on Sept.29 when the red, white and blue compete in the Greater Louisville Classic.
