LOUISVILLE, Ky. (9/29/2012) -- Sophomore
Ryan Hofsess recorded a career best and the Detroit men's cross country team earned 14th as the Titans ran in the 11
th Annual Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning at EP "Tom" Sawyer Park.
The GLCCC saw 115 collegiate programs on the course that will host the 2012 NCAA Division I Championships in November. On the men's side alone, the event had 35 men's teams that are currently ranked in the NCAA Division I, II and III as well as the NAIA polls.
UDM competed in the blue 8k race and tallied 447 points, with a team average of 26:18 for its scoring five.
Junior
Martin Nelkie led the way taking 54
th in 25:54, while sophomore
Colin Creagh posted a time of 26:15 for 82
nd.
Hofsess eclipsed his career mark for the second-straight race as he clocked a 26:22, over 30 seconds better than his 26:53 time at the National Catholic Championship, to finish in 99
th.
Senior
Bob Radlich was the fourth Titan to finish taking 103rd in 26:25, while senior
Edwin Gay was next at 26:32 for 120th. Freshman
Derek Gielarowski made his season debut for UDM and crossed the finish line in 26:33. Sophomore
George Holman recorded a PR by almost a minute with a 26:42 run.
The Titans were scheduled to run in the Michigan Intercollegiate next week, but will now be idle returning to the course on Oct. 13 when they compete in the Vic Matthews Open, hosted by University of Guelph.
